Three Dental Crowns For Three Brothers
Once upon a time lived three brothers. All of them had problems with a single tooth.
The oldest, Billy, chipped his tooth when he was tossing a baseball with his son. His son’s arm has gotten stronger as he’s gotten older. When Billy misjudged a throw, it hit him in the mouth and broke part of one of his teeth.
The middle brother, Chris, was somewhat lax about his oral hygiene. He’s had tooth decay on one tooth for some time, and now he realizes that he needs to do something about it.
The youngest, Dave, has a different tooth problem. He got hit in the jaw with an elbow during a pickup game with his friends. At the time, his mouth was a little sore, but he’s noticed one of his teeth has started turning darker than the rest.
If all of these brothers lived in or near Encino, CA, we would encourage them to visit our dentist, Ira J. Moin, D.D.S. to talk about dental crowns.
Billy’s Broken Tooth
Dr. Moin could explain to Billy how a dental crown could restore his tooth to its original condition. Our porcelain, zirconium, and e.max crowns look like real teeth, and they are visually indistinguishable from a real tooth.
Dr. Moin would explain the differences between the different kinds of crowns and help Billy select the right one for him.
To create Billy’s crown, Dr. Moin would start by reshaping the broken tooth. By doing this, he would remove the parts of the tooth that were weakened by the baseball Billy missed.
The healthy part of the tooth would be formed into an abutment. At the end of Billy’s first visit, we would attach a temporary crown so his smile will look whole until his permanent crown is ready.
When the lab finishes crafting Billy’s dental crown, he’ll come back to our office so we can bond it in place. When the crown is placed, it will look like his other teeth.
The other important thing to know is that the dental crown functions like a real tooth, too. This means Billy will be able to continue eating the foods that he looks without any worries.
When Chris comes to our office, we will need to evaluate the condition of his tooth. If he had come sooner (like when he first noticed the cavity forming), we may have been able to fix it with a filling.
As it is, he waited too long. The decay spread too much for a filling to do any good. Fortunately, he can get a dental crown, also.
The procedure for Chris is similar to what Billy went through. This main difference is that Dr. Moin would be removing decay from Chris’s tooth in order to preserve the healthy portions.
Again, Dr. Moin would create an abutment to support the dental crown. Chris would get a temporary crown to wear until his permanent crown is complete.
And like Billy, his new “tooth” will look natural and be fully functional.
Dave’s Discolored Tooth
Dave’s problem is a little different than his brothers. Most of us realize that our teeth will gradually turn yellower or darker as we get older.
In Dave’s case, the elbow he took to the jaw traumatized one of his teeth. In other words, his tooth was injured in that pickup game. This mean that teeth whitening would not be the best option for him.
Once again, Dr. Moin may recommend a dental crown. By removing the outer layers of the tooth, he could replace them with a clean crown that matches the color of Dave’s other teeth. This will give his smile a more uniform appearance, and Dave will feel more comfortable about smiling again.
Billy, Chris, and Dave usually get together with the rest of the family for a big cookout on the Fourth of July. All three of them think they will have a great story, not knowing that they all have the same moral.
If you need a dental crown, then you need to see Ira J. Moin, D.D.S. if you live in or near Encino, CA.
