The Many Uses For Dental Veneers
Cosmetic dentistry is incredibly popular, and why shouldn’t it be? Who doesn’t want a nice smile?
A nice smile makes you feel better. When you see one, it makes you want to smile, too.
When you have one, it gives you a boost of self-confidence when you are meeting people for the first time. This is true in social situations and professional ones, such as job interview or introducing yourself to a potential client or customer.
There’s just something about a nice smile. According to recent surveys, people with nice smiles are considered more trustworthy, more successful, and friendlier.
Ira J. Moin, D.D.S. has been helping people improve their smiles for more than 30 years. He can help you, too, if you visit his dentist office in Encino, CA.
One of our most versatile cosmetic procedures is veneers. Today, we want to explain what they are, and the many ways we can use them to make changes to your smile.
What Veneers Are
Veneers can be described a lot of ways.
One explanation is that they are like false fingernails, only veneers are applied to your teeth. The key difference is that veneers last much, much longer than fake fingernails ever could.
We’ve also heard veneers compared to the siding on a house. The siding is applied to the exterior, which changes the appearance of the building, although the foundation and the structure remain underneath.
They are a kind of shell that can be bonded to the front of your teeth. When they are applied, they can completely transform the appearance of your smile.
How To Get Veneers
If you decide that you would like to get veneers, you could get traditional porcelain veneers or minimal or no-prep veneers. Here’s a quick overview of the process for each.
With a typical set of veneers, we will start by removing a portion of the enamel on the front of your teeth.
Then, a dental laboratory will craft a custom-made set of veneers to fit your teeth. When they are delivered to our office, we will make sure they fit correctly before bonding them to your teeth.
Your veneers are made to withstand that the daily wear and tear of eating. With proper care, you can keep them for decades.
No-prep veneers have a simpler process. These are typically much thinner than other veneers. As a result, we may not have to remove any of your enamel.
Other than that, the process is pretty similar. We will order a custom-fitted set of veneers for you, and they will be bonded to your teeth when they are ready.
Uses For Veneers
If you are wondering if veneers can help you, start by getting a mirror. Take a close look at your smile, then see if any of the issues described below remind you of your smile.
If so, then veneers may be a good solution for you.
► Crooked Teeth — Veneers won’t straighten your teeth like an orthodontic treatment. Instead, they will give you the appearance of straight teeth in a matter of weeks instead of the years it can take to move your teeth with orthodontic care.
► Crowded Teeth — If your teeth look like they have been jostling for space in your mouth, it can leave your smile looking less attractive than you might prefer. Veneers can leave your smile looking like your teeth are parallel to one another.
► Gaps Between Your Teeth — This is an issue for many people. The extra space between your teeth can make some people feel embarrassed to smile. With veneer, we can close that gap and give you the appearance of evenly spaced teeth.
► Chipped Or Worn Down Teeth — We have more than one way to fix chipped and broken teeth, and we have one really good solution for someone with multiple teeth that have missing pieces. Veneers can recreate your old smile or make it better than it ever was.
► Discolored Teeth — Stained and discolored teeth are others problems that make you hesitant to say, “Cheese.” Veneers can give you back the white, bright smile of your youth.
Fix One Problem Or Several All At Once
Veneers may not be able to fix every possible problem that you have with your smile, but as you can see, they can fix many different kinds of problems.
