Get Fit & Stay Fit With Implant Dentures

September 1, 2016

Getting dentures seemed like the right idea at the time.

You lost a whole row of your teeth, and you figured out pretty quickly that life without those teeth wasn’t enjoyable.

You didn’t sound like yourself when you spoke. You were self-conscious about opening your mouth since you thought people would pay more attention to your mouth than what you were trying to say.

You no longer wanted to smile for pictures.

And don’t get us started about how losing your teeth affected how you ate.

Dentures seemed like the solution. They looked like teeth when they were in your mouth, and you could eat more than you could without teeth, right?

Ira J. Moin, D.D.S., has helped patients in similar situations. He also knows how to help you get more benefits and fewer frustrations from your dentures. Just make an appointment at our dentist office if you live in or near Encino, CA, to learn how dental implants could help you.

Dentures Can Be Frustrating

When you first get dentures, they can seem like a godsend.

You feel comfortable posing for pictures. You have some ability to eat, and after a little adjusting, you sound like yourself again when you speak.

You may dismiss the occasional slip of your dentures as being part of the deal.

The thing is, that doesn’t really improve over time. If anything, the slips become more frequent while you are trying to explain something to a coworker, sharing a funny story from your last vacation, or just trying to order your lunch.

You also notice that your dentures don’t seem to fit as comfortably as they once did. It’s almost like they don’t fit your mouth anymore.

Your dentures were made just for your mouth. The problem is that your mouth is changing, and that will continue to happen as long as you have traditional dentures.

Why? It has to do with your jaw.

When you had teeth, your jaw could count on your roots to keep in contact. This contact was the result of pressure created when you bit into and chewed your food.

The pressure was the stimulus your jaw need to create new bone tissue, which replaced older tissue as it was reabsorbed. This process kept your jaw healthy and strong.

With traditional dentures, there’s nothing to contact your jawbone directly. As a result, your jaw does not make new tissue like it needs to and therefore your jaw gets smaller.

This affects the shape of your mouth, and that changes how well or poorly your dentures fit.

Refitting Your Dentures

It’s common for people with dentures to get them refitted from time to time. This is something you will need to repeat over and over again unless you deal with the underlying issue.

How can you do that? With dental implants.

Dental implants are prosthetic roots. They are placed directly in your jaw, and like your roots, they will press into your jaw. This will prompt the new tissue growth your jawbone needs to remain strong and to maintain its shape.

We can place a series of implants in your jaw, and your dentures can be retrofitted to fit over your implants with a bar or ball attachments. We can do this with as few as four dental implants using the All-on-4® placement procedure.

Whichever option you choose, your dentures will be more secure and more stable than they can ever be with a denture adhesive.

The choose you have to make is whether you want to fix your dentures once and for the rest of your life or if you want to keep having them remade time and again.

Life With Implant Dentures

Implant-supported dentures offer you all the benefits of traditional dentures and much more.

With implant dentures, your smile will look natural and normal. (It may even look better than it did when you had all your teeth.)

You won’t have to worry about your “teeth” falling out in the middle of a sales pitch to a new client, a presentation at work, or when reading a book to your grandchildren.

You will be able to order whatever you want when you dine out with your family and friends, too. With your dental implants, you can bite and chew practically as well as someone who has all their teeth.

This means the whole menu will be open to you once again.

Dr. Moin is a wonderful dentist. He is professional and does excellent work. Everyone in the office is friendly and helpful – so much so that my 6yr old asked if we could go back. We went to him on a family recommendation and I would highly recommend him to family and friends.

-Suzie B, Acton, CA

My family has been going to Dr. Moin since 1996 and since then, he has been and still continues to be a great dentist. He does an excellent job, whether it’d be extracting a wisdom tooth or simply filling a cavity. You should definitely have Dr. Moin as a dentist; you’re in good hands.

-Monica U, Valley Village, CA

Finally, I found a dentist that is compassionate about what he does. His entire staff is courteous, professional, and caring. I’ve been to many dentist through recommendation of friends and although it wasn’t a bad experience, I haven’t experienced service to this degree. I am a professional in the health care field, and because I work nights and long hours, my bad habits include coffee and drinking soda to stay awake. As a results, I destroyed the enamel on my teeth and soon was embarrassed to smile. I came to Dr. Moin through a referral and was immediately greeted by a friendly, warm staff. I sat in the room with Dr. Moin and explained my concerns and needs. He took the time to listen then explain the procedure and informed me of his 20 plus years experience in cosmetic dentistry. I had an inner warmth and security that somehow validated was he was saying, so proceeded with getting Veneers. Let me tell you, choosing Dr. Moin was the best decision I made. The quality is superb and the price could not be beaten. Colleagues who also have Veneers were shocked about the difference in what they paid compared to what I did and some can’t even tell that I have Veneers. I must say, I highly recommend him to everyone!!! Thank you Dr. Moin and Staff.
